JJessie Pollock

Jessie Pollock in her studio.

Fine artist Jessie Pollock has had a career defined by transitions, initially as a sculptor, then as a portrait painter trained in the style of the Renaissance painters, to still life, and landscapes, and later branching out in other directions.

Her work is always richly textured, atmospheric, sensuous and evocative, suggesting the passage of time, and evoking a sense of nostalgia.

From a series of mixed-media works which combined small photographic images with fragments of antique clothing, juxtaposed with luminous old family images of parents and children transferred onto plexiglas highlighted with silver and gold gilding, to her latest series of pieces which revisit previous themes having to do with more earthy materials of stone, oxidized metals, wax, pigment, cloth and clay as influenced by her upbringing on a family farm in Vermont, Pollock explores themes of memory and remembrance with a passionate interest in the sensuous possibilities of painting.

Her studio in New Hampshire affords her the ability to enjoy the inspiration of her surroundings, of rich, verdant forests and mountain streams. Rusting farm relics, tools, parts, earth and fields provide inspiration for colors, collage and texture, or actual elements in her work.

Mid-winter may find her in Florida executing her ideas, or finding more inspiration. An occasional expedition to the Italian countryside, or to the northern coast of Ireland have served as other creative points of departure enriching her creative spirit.

Her work is appealing for their use of tactile surfaces, radiant light, rich earthy colors and dreamlike qualities which sets one’s mind to wandering within the world of the image.

Pollock’s work has been exhibited widely throughout the US and the Northeast and is in private collections of individuals, organizations and corporations.
